Switching Yale Locks from Z-Wave to Zigbee: A Smooth Transition

After experiencing some reliability issues with my Z-Wave Yale locks, I decided to make the switch to Zigbee modules. The process was smoother than I anticipated, and I thought I’d share my experience in case others are considering a similar change.

First, I wanted to ensure that all my lock settings, like auto-lock and lock codes, would be preserved. From what I gathered in the community, these settings are stored in the lock itself, not the module, so there was no need to worry about losing any configurations. That was a huge relief!

I decided to rename each lock in my system to something like “-old” before swapping out the modules. This helped me keep track of which locks had been updated and which still needed attention. After installing the new Zigbee modules, I added them back into my network. The integration with my existing Zigbee setup was seamless, and I didn’t encounter any hiccups during the process.

One tip I’d share is to use Hubitat’s app to replace the device once the new module is set up. This ensures that all your existing automations and events continue to work without any interruption. It’s a small detail, but it makes the transition much smoother.

Overall, the switch has been a positive experience. My locks are now part of a more reliable and integrated system, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. If anyone has questions or needs advice on making the switch, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to help!

Happy automating! :rocket:
