T2 GU10 RGB Bulb - Overheat Protection?

Hi all,
I have a large set of T2 GU10’s and last night 1 bulb turned itself off. The bulb in question is part of a group of 4 that are always on/off at the same time.

In the app, the bulb now shows the following error…

It’s now been off for 12 hours. Is there a way to recover the bulb from this or is it now dead? If so not good for an expensive LED bulb :frowning:

Thanks

Hi there, it looks like you’re experiencing a support-related issue. We’ve automatically created a support ticket for you and will reach out via the forum email within the next two business days.

If other members have any suggestions or insights on this topic, feel free to share!

Just turn the power off, wait 10s and on again. It never clears this status if you don’t cut the power.

You don’t have to wait 12 hours. You can just wait a few minutes.

So just use the physical switch basically.

Personally I recommend just turning them off (cutting the power) immediately after the overheating error. Even if the LED is off, the internal electronics may be still working. But you will be ok if you don’t do it, that’s why this safety feature exists (so it doesn’t automatically turn on and immediately overheat again)

I has this problem a few times (I have those installed in my kitchen hood and they overheat if there’s a lot of steam) and that’s how I know

Thanks, that seems to have fixed it.
Odd that only 1 bulb overheated when 3 others are nearby and all one for the same periods of time.

Thanks

Nice. Is this 1 bulb near a vent or was there a kettle nearby?

Not more than any others. Strange!

Yes, strange indeed. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen again!

Hello, unfortunately, once a year, every six months, my relay with zero (single-channel) falls off. So they didn’t clarify anything with the support service. I de-energize the relay on the machine (which powers it) and it works normally again.

For my curiosity why ppl still use bulbs?I rather prefer to add an ceiling simple LED with an smart switch and for having something with colors I use an Aqara LED Strip T1.i am not an big fan of bulbs

We have bulbs and LED strips. LED strips give a really cool effect and are more “toned down”. Useful in case of automatic lights, or mood lights. Or to hide dirty spots. :joy: I most often use them, because all my lights are automated and you don’t need to touch the switch to get light.

BUT I really need the GU10 spotlights when:

  • I’m working
  • I’m looking for something in the cupboards
  • I’m soldering
  • I’m fixing something or assembling something
  • I’m solving puzzles on the ground
  • I’m looking in the mirror checking out how the clothes look at me
  • My wife is putting her make-up and needs to check her face in different light
  • I’m trimming hair (or my wife’s hair) or grooming my dog

It’s more of a backup light than main light. And the adjustable warmth is great, as sometimes you need different light.

Some people like a bigger light for cleaning (especially during winter). And some people just cannot see well with mood lighting (my parents told me to turn on the light when only the LEDs were on).

I believe also with kids you want more light so they don’t bump into anything and so you can see their toys on the ground well (so you don’t step into them)

I kind of understand but why not replacing the bulbs with ceiling LED lights since those are some of 20/40w that gives you enough light.but I understand bulbs in an big house were those do give more light then LED but on apartments not so sure.sure spotlights are also an good option because they are small and discreet

  1. Money. Maybe I will change it during next renovation. Replacing a GU10 dumb bulbs with smart bulbs is much quicker way or cheaper if you just have to swap 4-9 of them.
  2. Quick upgrade - if you think of refreshing the house, replacing the bulbs is a great starter. Especially given that you can choose the warmth, which is a huge game changer in terms of how your room looks.
  3. Shadows. LED strips have different light angle and diffusion and give different shadows. It looks different when you check out your clothes or do your makeup.

My LED strips were installed with a special channel and two sided tape, so it was not exactly a renovation. An LED channel (that you just glue to the wall) is dirt cheap, so the whole “upgrade” cost me just the price of the 8m of the Aqara LED Strip + about 40 EUR for the channels.

So the old lights had to stay - and as they were too strong (and I didn’t liked their warmth), smart bulbs were easier to do. And I upgraded them a few months later (so it was easier on the pocket).

And I believe if you’re not sure if smart LEDs (or lighting) is for you, it’s easier to just make a cheap and easily reversible upgrade (like buying a GU10).

Oh, and GU10 bulbs are renter-friendly. You just take them with you when you move out.

Edit: After further consideration, you have to also consider you wife may not like the look of the LED strips :joy: So it’s easier to convince her if you start with GU10 and E27 lights and maybe she will agree on the LED strips in the future if she likes your smart solutions.

But me and my wife are huge nerds and we love our smart home, but honestly? We wouldn’t want an LED railroad on the ceiling. GU10 bulbs and Aqara Ceiling Light T1M look much better to us.

Well not so sure if smart bulbs are cheaper I have something like this I bought 3 only 2 are on the living room as it’s bigger and one is on my second bedroom witch my wife use it as his office/relaxing room :rofl::rofl:.but I personally use now Meross led strip behind my TV and I barely touch the light even that I have smart touch switches that are matter compatible so for me was much easy an cheaper to change the switches and that ceiling LED I have as this cost me 9 euros and it works perfectly :rofl::rofl: all my lights I can control them from my Apple home app as all the switches are added.in the kitchen I replaced my Neon that I have with aqara LED strip and it give me enough light.this is why I ask why bulbs because smart bulbs are way more expensive then normal bulbs

You see, that’s why Aqara offers LED Strips, GU10 bulbs (white and colorful), E27 bulbs (white and colorful), smart plugs, now there are new string lights, permanent lights and floor lamps coming… So everyone can find whatever works for them  I just get why some people don’t want to do a renovation (which may be expensive) or just don’t like LED strips, I just wanted to answer your question

But I also love my automated LED Strips, so I get your point

Well I am living on an rental apartment that is why I do not need to invest so much even so I changed all my switches with touch switches as blend better and I like them more then normal smart switches also cleaning the panel is much easy too this 2 control my living room lights and they are matter so I do not need an app for them beside Apple home app.plus my longing room is not so big to install LED strips on the ceiling to much work and also the cost will be way to high to do them right
