Hey ,
After banging my head against the wall for a couple nights, I finally got my Aqara gear playing nice with Home Assistant — and it’s running smoother than ever. Thought I’d share my setup and a few hard-earned tips in case anyone else’s stuck in integration limbo.
So, I’m running HA on a Pi 4 with ZHA, and using a Conbee II stick. I’ve got a bunch of Aqara sensors (motion, door/window, temp/humidity, you name it). The tricky part was pairing — Aqara devices are kinda picky unless you know their rhythm.
Hot tip: Pair them close to the coordinator, like literally within a meter. I found that putting sensors in place before pairing often leads to dropout hell. Once paired, you can move them — just keep them within Zigbee mesh range.
Also, don’t ignore the power of strong Zigbee routers (hello, IKEA repeaters on the cheap!). Without them, my motion sensors kept going MIA until I built a more solid mesh.
Bonus: Automations like “if door opens and it’s dark, hallway light goes on for 3 mins” became crazy reliable once I got the connection stable.
Anyone else running full Aqara setups in HA? Would love to hear your tricks — or just vent if you’re still in setup pain mode. Let’s make this smarter together.
