This one seems like it would or should be a simple solution… I want to be able to use my Aqara W200 thermostat without connecting it to the Aqara Home app and run it locally via Matter over Wi-Fi-only to my Home Assistant install, but in doing so I have NO way to program location information into the thermostat.
Can we get some sort of local method of setting the location of the thermostat without requiring an Aqara account and having the device connected to that account? I’ve gone so far as to connect it, adjust the naming, and remove it, but it will revert after a power outage if it’s not connected to the Aqara app anymore.
Hey Jared - I wanted to make sure on my response here so I checked the manual. Manual’s clear the W200’s settings live in whichever ecosystem it’s bound to, not on the device: "Rewiring clears all previous settings.
If using Matter, all ecosystem settings will also be cleared," and unbinding disables schedules/presets/security modes. Going pure Matter+HA with zero Aqara app is probably fighting the device’s architecture.
When you say settings revert, is it just location, or schedules too? If just location, try binding once through Apple Home instead — real location services, without living in the Aqara app. Curious if this will be a valid work-around for you.

I don’t currently have any other Aqara ecosystem items, and I don’t plan to use the thermostat as a smart hub, nor utilize most of the “smart” functions of it (e.g., schedules). What I am looking for is basically a “pretty” version of a Home Assistant-compatible thermostat with basic functions outside of that.
As far as settings living within the bound ecosystem is concerned, I don’t have any issues with that aspect of it, but the Matter integration side doesn’t look to pass the location / name back to the thermostat, so each thermostat just says the default ‘Aqara Thermostat W200’ or whatever the default wording is. I’ve both moved the device location in Home Assistant, and changed the name of the device, and no change. As far as Homekit / Apple Home goes, I don’t intend to use Apple Home at this time.
All I’m looking for is a way to set a basic location on the unit itself, whether that’s via a keyboard or a preset list of some sort that can survive a power cycle…
