I would like to know , first if I can pair Aqara smart plug to Apple HomePod mini through matters tread and then if I can use this plug as a thread extender for door and window sensors P2

Hi there.if the plug is thread and have the scanning code on it then you can add it directly to HomeKit and yes it will extend the thread mesh.every thread device that is connect to electricity directly extend the thread mesh without an problem.

If you are referring to the following Aqara Smart Plug, then I believe the answer is no. The following Aqara Smart Plug is Zigbee 3.0, not Matter over Thread.

Yes, that was my question, thanks

That’s not quite true. There are devices that are connected to mains and do not act as Mesh Extenders.

Hi there,

So for an Aqara smart plug, the answer seems no.

Depending on your country (You don’t say) then Smart Wall outlets certainly provide the capability. e.g. I’m in the UK and the Smart Wall Outlet does act as a Mesh extender/Router.

If you are set on have a Smart Plug, there are other companies that do support what you are looking for. My favourite is Eve. They are quite expensive, but very reliable.

Yes like the one above witch is zigbee but devices that are thread they extend the thread network around the house I for example I have 3 light switches witch are thread added them directly to Apple home app and this extend the thread network same are plugs like for example outdoor meross plug MOP320 is thread the others 2 they sell are only matter and WiFi but this one is thread and WiFi.

If you just need to extend then get an m100 there cheap, require little power and have an added bonus of a zigbee gateway!!!

I do not need to extend my mesh zigbee is perfect also all my matter devices are working great.i was telling to the persona that start this thread about that all thread devices non batteries powered can extend the red thread but I didn’t check what plug he had didn’t research it but since he have an zigbee one that won’t extend his thread mesh or red only zigbee can

Are you referring to the following Aqara outlet? If so, I don’t anywhere in the documentation that it supports anything other than Zigbee… It can be connected to a Matter Controller when used with an Aqara Hub which supports Matter Bridge functionality.

The OP was specifically asking for a device that would extend a Thread mesh network. Looks like the following would only help a Zigbee mesh network.

The only UK/EU mains powered device (other than Aqara hubs) that I see that directly supports Matter over Thread is the following in-wall switch.

In the USA, it appears the following in-wall switches support Matter over Thread.

No. As I said, I’m in the UK and the UK Outlet is Thread or Zigbee. As Thread it operates as a Mesh Extender.

Yes exactly my point but any thread devices is an extender for thread mesh but the plug @veigavm have is zigbee and even if it is added tru an hub to Apple home it won’t work as an thread extender.

No it won’t work as even if is exposed to Apple home it is still an zigbee device.if you want to extend your thread mesh you need an thread device and not zigbee witch require an hub to be exposed.

So, correct, Zigbee does not act as a Mesh extender.

However, elsewhere, you are wrong. You said “every thread device that is connect to electricity directly extend the thread mesh without an problem”. That is an incorrect statement. It should be the case, but there are mains powered devices out there that are not mesh extenders and are end points.

Give me an example of a thread powered device that is not a thread extender?because from what I read and see every thread device is extending the thread mesh around the house
