Transforming My Water Heater Monitoring with Wyze Cam and Sense

I’ve been a long-time user of Wyze cameras, and recently I stumbled upon a unique application for my Sense v1. My water heater has been acting up, with the pilot light going out unexpectedly. I wanted a way to monitor this without constantly checking the heater manually. Here’s how I set it up:

I placed a Wyze Sense v1 in front of the pilot flame window and a Wyze Cam v2 in front of the controller. The Sense detects motion when the heater kicks in, and the Cam takes a video when the pilot light goes out. I created a rule so that if the Sense is clear for over three hours during daylight hours, it triggers the Cam to take a video. This should alert me when the pilot light is out.

However, I’ve noticed an issue where the Cam is triggered by motion from the heater boiling water instead of detecting the lack of activity when the pilot is out. Am I misunderstanding how the ‘Has Been Clear For’ rule works? I’d love to hear if others have similar setups or solutions!

Despite this hiccup, I’m really impressed with how Wyze products integrate for home monitoring. It’s been a fun project, and I’m hopeful to get it working smoothly soon. Anyone else using Wyze Cam and Sense for unique applications? I’d love to hear your experiences!
