Why is the UK treated differently to a lot of the rest of the world? When products are released? Why are products not released in the UK when they are released in many other countries around the world? I’m a disabled person with manual dexterity problems and I’m looking to get the U400 Ultra Wideband door lock but because Aqara thinks we only use others ways to lock doors & can’t change the way we lock door Aqara are reluctant to help disabled ppl in the UK by refusing to import the U400
I am guessing and this is pure speculation that it has something to do with the certification and compliances with products that has to be imported into the UK, especially since the Brexit that changed a lot.
@icedqara suggested that it may be because of compliance. Since Brexit we have created our own compliance (UKCA) which is basically the same at CE (EU), When UKCA was created it was identical to CE, but I can’t catagorically say that now.
However, I do know that when you do compliance certification you usually go for everything all at once as the honest truth is that most compliance is the same. This, then, becomes lower cost to the company as you don’t have to run the tests multiple times.
Door. locks are different. I think the U400 is designed for North American locks. Their locks are different from the UK/EU and so you need a different automation solution.
It’s nothing to do with compliance or certification it’s to do with they say we do not use dead bolts in the UK. Our doors locked differently but like usual they are wrong. We use deadbolts in the UK but like a lot of companies they get fixated on the standard way of locking doors.
It’s nothing to do with compliance rules regulations or anything I have been in contact with Aqara and they have explained that we use different mechanisms to lock the door but we have deadbolt doors in this country as well so it will fit it can be used. It’s just that they don’t think the market is big enough for them to import them, but people on eBay in the UK are selling them for twice the markup of what you can buy them in America so they are making money out of English people I have done all my research and looked into it properly and found out the reasons why but luckily a friend is going to America in November and I will be getting my Aqara U400 for the regular price
The U400 is mainly built and designed for US deadbolt locks- some other countries also have this kind of locks too worldwide…
But afaik definitely not UK or most EU countries!
The UWB is definitely a great option to open doors! But even for disabled people Aqara offers a lot of great options for to open the door by U200 - which should work for you as well.
Also the IFA in September will show us definitely some great new products from Aqara and I also hope for a successor of the U200 with UWB or even a newer and better technology!
And there are also some limitations by every country, which Aqara doesn’t allow them to release this or that product without changing something!
So stay tuned and we can talk more after the 8th of September ![]()
I don’t want the U200 or like the look of it I want the UWB U400, the way door lock & unlock can be changed easily than Aqara thinks the problem is Aqara U400 is sold on eBay in the UK so this shows it is wanted in UK at a lot higher prices that is extortionate and then also shipping prices, from America.
Ok, but if the U400 is sold on EBay, it doesn’t mean that it’s built for UK locks! But good luck for you , maybe you get a cheap one on EBay and then you can change your door to an American one ![]()
