When a switch is opened, like with the door, is it possible to cause my M2 hub or Apple iPod mini to speak " front door has been opened?"
Yes, I used to use my M3 Hub to announce things like the laundry was finished and things of that nature. 101soundboards you can make cool custom TTS AI voices pretty easily, I had Jarvis doing most of mine.
Can I make my M2 hub say the same things? How do I set that up. Newbie here but quite capable. Thanks
I’ve never owned the M2 so i’m not sure, i would think so. I had mine setup right in the Aqara automations before i switched to Home Assistant.
IF X, then Play audio file on chime/hub. It lets you import 10 for the doorbell, i’d assume it’s the same for the M2?
If you want to make your HomePod Mini announce things, you can use Matter integration to use any WHEN condition to trigger a HomeKit automation. But I’m not sure if it’s an M3-exclusive feature, or is it also available on M2.
The Matter integration has “signal sync” that allows you to setup any WHEN signal (the same as in automation) that will be exposed to other Matter system (like HomeKit) as a sensor.
Then you can setup an automation to make Siri say any text you want.
Thanks for the reply.
I have a Mini but not sure how to make it “say” things. I thought you need Apple Music for this, which I don’t have.
If you could give me step by step instructions on how to set this all up, that would be a great help.
Thanks.
I’m sorry, I was wrong. I mistook the Home automations with Shortcut automations.
Home automations are more limited and, I just checked, don’t allow you to announce anything.
The only automations that allow you to announce anything on a HomePod are shortcuts. iOS Shortcut have the action called “intercom” that you can use to tell Siri to read some text on your HomePod. But those are not available in Apple Home automations for some reason.
Once again, sorry for mistaking you
