Turn on a pc remotely (no wol)

I needed to turn on remotely my pc on the basement. After turning it off, the wake up on line doesn’t work.
I use a T2 in dry contact mode.
I connected the two wires that turn on the pc.
And it has to close the circuit for half a second. That’s enough for my pc to turn on.

@hmichopoulos It’s fantastic to hear that you’ve successfully set up your Aqara Dual Relay Module T2 in dry contact mode to remotely power on your PC in the basement! This kind of integration showcases the flexibility of the T2 module for various applications beyond just traditional smart home setups.

In dry contact mode, as you might know, the T2 can control devices like your PC by briefly closing the circuit, just as you’ve done to turn it on. The setup you described aligns well with the T2’s capabilities, especially since it supports dry contact pulse mode, which is perfect for your half-second circuit closure to power on the PC.

If you’re looking for more customization or automation, you might want to explore the app settings to fine-tune the dry contact pulse mode or integrate it with other smart home routines. Feel free to share more about how you’re using it or any other creative setups you might have. Your experience could be very inspiring for others in the community!

If wake on lan doesn’t work from a totally powered off state, there might be a settting in the BIOS. Look for something called “wake from S5” or similar. What happens is that the PC is not keeping the ethernet card alive to be able to receive the Wake on lan packet.

You can use a smart outlet instead. When you turn off your computer, the outlet will detect the low power draw and turn off. Then, when you turn the outlet back on remotely, you just need to configure in your BIOS for the computer to automatically start when power is restored.

I’ve been trying to do the exact same thing for a couple of years now and have been searching for a solution to that connects the Power switch to something smart. But as a stop gap as Marc3k has mentioned I’m using a smart plug to achieve this. In the bios settings I’ve set my motherboard to turn up when power is restored and the smart plug I’ve set a routine to turn off > waiting 15 secs > turn on.

If you do find a better solution without WOL I’d be very interested.

Yes, but bios options are not available neither reliable in many cases.

I thought about this, but I don’t want to completely cut the power to the pc for extended time periods.

Thank you all for your comments and ideas.
To recap: my bios options are not reliable. Also, I don’t want my pc to automatically turn on when power is restored because sometimes the power is not stable here. So, it goes off, then on for a few seconds then off. That’s why I wanted to control when the pc will be turned on.
Also, I have another pc which I use for development, so I want to turn it on and off like a pc nearby. But using a smart outlet can ruin the battery of the pc.

Just to let you know, there’s an option to keep the power off after an outage.

Fo you mean an option of a smart outlet?
That would be really helpful.

Yes. If that option is not enabled, the outlet will remain off after a power outage. I use it for all the devices in my home theater.
