Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun project I recently worked on with my smart home setup. I have a 70” Samsung TV, and one thing that always bothered me was the LED backlight turning off completely when I turned the TV off. It made the room feel too dark, even when I wasn’t watching anything.

After some research, I found a clever solution using a TP-Link Kasa smart plug and the Rule Machine app. Here’s how I set it up:
- Plugging In: I plugged the TV into the smart plug. This allows me to control the power supply programmatically.
- Automation Setup: Using the Rule Machine, I created a rule that detects when the TV turns off. When this happens, the smart plug reduces the power slightly, keeping the LEDs on but dimmed.

- Dimming Adjustment: I experimented with different brightness levels to find the perfect balance—just enough light to navigate the room without being too harsh.
This setup has been a game-changer for me! It’s so satisfying to have that subtle glow without any extra effort. Plus, it adds a nice ambiance to the room when I’m not watching TV. ![]()
