TL;DR:
On the Aqara U100, Apple Home Key “Tap to Unlock” does not work when Auto-Lock on Close is enabled. Disabling Auto-Lock on Close restores Tap to Unlock. Safety Re-Lock does not cause the issue.
I recently installed several Aqara U100 locks and began testing Apple Home Key “Tap to Unlock.” Out of three locks, only one worked correctly. All three would lock via Home Key, but only one would unlock.
I started troubleshooting by comparing the Aqara settings on the working lock versus one of the non-working locks. The configurations were identical except for two settings:
- Auto-Lock on Close
- Safety Re-Lock
The working lock had both settings disabled (it’s in a high-traffic area). I then disabled both settings on one of the non-working locks, and Tap to Unlock immediately started working.
To isolate the cause, I tested each setting individually:
- Safety Re-Lock enabled (Auto-Lock on Close disabled) → Tap to Unlock works
- Auto-Lock on Close enabled (Safety Re-Lock disabled) → Tap to Unlock fails
So the issue appears to be specifically tied to Auto-Lock on Close.
I reviewed the U100 documentation and did not see this interaction mentioned anywhere, so I’m assuming this may be an undocumented behavior or a firmware issue.
My question:
Is it currently possible on the U100 to have Auto-Lock on Close enabled and retain Apple Home Key Tap-to-Unlock functionality? Or is this a known limitation?
Thanks — hoping this helps others running into the same behavior.
