I’ve been using a U50 lock with HomeKit (no Aqara or zigbee hub, just HomeKit hub) for several months. Looking at getting another Aqara lock and considering the U100 but I see some information suggesting the U100 requires a zigbee or Aqara hub. Is this correct?

I’ve heard good things about the U100. While it’s true that Aqara hubs generally offer the most comprehensive feature set and local control, the U100 does support Matter over Thread, which means it can connect directly to a HomeKit hub (like an Apple TV or HomePod mini) without needing an Aqara hub. I have the u100 and haven’t had a single issue. I control it through BT, home assistant and Apple’s Home control. I also don’t use a hub.
You don’t need a Hub for the U100 doorbell. It will work but you won’t have access to all the features Aqara offers
