Recently successfully installed U400 with Apple HK, Aqara App and Home Assistant and all working well. I started with the U400 so I didn’t need an Aqara hub and just used my HA Matter integration.
Today I received a U100 and was able to connect to HK as well as Aqara app but for some reason I can’t add it to HA. I don’t see a way to generate a matter code and I only see the HK QR code on the inside of the lock.
Any ideas on how to add to HA? Using my AppleTV for HK.
Does this video and guide help you?
I saw that post but unfortunately one of the prerequisites is having a Aqara Hub which I don’t have and originally didn’t need for the U400. Matter code was listed on the U400 lock.
Here is how I understand the situation regarding the differences between the locks and the integration methods:
- Aqara U400: This device actually holds a Matter certificate and functions via Matter over Thread. That is why you see the Matter and Thread logos on the packaging.
- Aqara U100: This device does not have a Matter certificate (so no Matter over Thread or WiFi support). It only bears the “Works with Apple Home” logo.
Regarding the integration into Home Assistant:
Via Matter: As described in the linked guide, you can integrate the U100 into HA via Matter, but you mandatorily need an Aqara Hub to act as a Matter Bridge. The lock itself cannot communicate via Matter directly.
Via HomeKit Device: Theoretically, you can connect devices with the “Works with Apple Home” logo directly to HA using the “HomeKit Device” integration. However, the HomeKit pairing is exclusive. As long as your U100 is paired with your Apple TV/Home Hub, Home Assistant cannot connect to it.
Since the U100 uses Bluetooth, your Home Assistant server requires a Bluetooth dongle/radio to see it. You would also need to remove the U100 from Apple Home first, pair it directly to HA via the “HomeKit Device” integration (over Bluetooth), and then expose it back to your Apple TV using the “HomeKit Bridge” integration within HA.
I cannot guarantee that this specific Bluetooth workflow works smoothly with the U100, as I haven’t tested it myself. I have only successfully done this with other devices like the Aqara FP2, but the FP2 communicates via WiFi, whereas the U100 relies on Bluetooth.
Thank you. I ordered an Aqara Hub but it is backordered from Amazon so I will update when I get it installed.
