U200 smart lock: how it should feel when operated manually

Hi, just got an U200. Sometimes, when opening, the lock goes past its “unlocked” set point, causing the door handle latch to disengage (European lock), LED turns red and there’s an error displayed in the app regarding cylinder position. Might be or might not be related to Turn Assist being activated. I believe the calibration is done correctly as when I’m trying to reproduce the issue, the lock consistently reaches both end stops as it should (because of course it does )

While trying to troubleshoot it, I began to wonder whether the mechanism works correctly in mine. I read there’s supposed to be some kind of clutch but it doesn’t seem to work the way I would expect a clutch to work. When I operate the knob manually from inside, I can feel and hear the reduction gears back-driving the motor. I deliberately don’t talk “hard” or “soft” because that’s always subjective but let’s say there’s more resistance that I would call “right”. If anything, the resistance is consistent throughout the bolt movement. It doesn’t come from the door mechanism, everything fine there; we can skip that. It’s only a few times (after Turn Assist activated, I think) I could feel the lock knob mechanically disengaged, turning practically freely, the way I would actually expect the supposed clutch to work. After I turned it some, the mechanism caught on and done the rest of the turning. But that’s it, most of the time it’s back to me working against the reduction gear train, back-driving the unpowered motor.

Is it supposed to work like this? Please help me establish a “baseline” for further troubleshooting.

I’m on firmware version 3.0.0_0085, hardware version V3.1

Zbig

Hi @zbig1 …. The U200 retrofit fit lock try’s to compensate as many lock types as possible in Europe / worldwide! But sometimes strange problems appear and need some compensation by trying out different possibilities in the settings! May you can send us a video to better understand your problem!?
But did you already tried a manual calibration?

Thank you for your response, @DEChrisE . I just discovered, by experimentation/accident, that when I first turn the knob right/clockwise (in the locking direction) a bit, then the clutch actually disengages, allowing me to turn left/unlock effortlessly. Will see whether not wrestling with the motor will make the issue go away. So far so good but more testing is needed. Will post a video if the problem persists. Thanks once again!

Hello, welcome to the forum. The fixation that you noticed is related to the firmware that provides a reliable stop of the (calibrated) U200 lock for precise fixation. There is just a feature, what you noticed, turn it back a little and then rotate. This is a feature of the firmware and the operation of the lock.
