Noticed some come with and some don’t. Do I need it?
The hub enables remote access to settings - which can be accessed without a hub locally via bluetooth. We are able to use our lock, set up users, pins, and fingerprints locally - and having a connection via Apple TV to connect to Homekit for status and notifications is working currently as we are setting up the new house. We will move to a hub and more devices as we continue to unpack and get settled, for now security and changing the previous owner’s locks was our priority.
Gotcha. Thank you!
So if I have multiple Aqara devices I assume one hub is enough?
This will depend on the size of the house and the distance between things. I have with other ecosystems that one hub centrally located hits most edge cases, the home we are in now is larger and depending on where things get placed we might end up running two just to cover lower strength areas.
That said, some devices act as hubs / relays themselves and can widen the mesh of the network without needing another hub (I believe the new thermostat falls into that category)
