U400 Maximum Connections

Hello, i recently bought a U400 lock.

I have connected it to the following items with matter.

Aqara M200 Hub
Smartthings Hub
Google Home
Apple Homekit
Apple Wallet

I would love to connect it to my home assistant but it its rejecting the linking. Is there a maximum of 5 connections in matter or is there any other way to work around connecting.

Thanks im new to matter and thread so learning lots so far.

Hi, welcome to the Matter and Thread world!

Apple Wallet itself doesn’t count as a Matter fabric. However, Apple Home setups can also create a separate Apple Keychain fabric. If that’s the case on your setup, you may already be using five Matter fabric slots (Aqara, SmartThings, Google, Apple Home, and Apple Keychain), which could explain why Home Assistant can’t join.

Please note that I’m not entirely sure whether five is the maximum for the U400 itself, as five is simply the minimum number of simultaneous fabrics required by the Matter specification.

You can verify this yourself on your iPhone by going to Settings → General → Matter Accessories, selecting your lock, and checking the list of connected services.

Possible workaround:

Since the U400 supports Apple Home Key, I would keep it connected to Apple Home. Removing it from Apple Home would also remove Home Key from Apple Wallet, and Home Assistant cannot provide that functionality.

One option would be to remove the lock from either Google Home or SmartThings, freeing up a Matter fabric. You could then pair it directly with Home Assistant. If needed, Home Assistant may be able to expose the lock to other ecosystems again via a Matter Hub app
like Home Assistant Matter Hub by riddix, depending on the capabilities supported by both Home Assistant and the target platform.

Just to be absolutely sure this is really a fabric limit issue: what exact error message or error code does Home Assistant show when the pairing is rejected?
