UWB seems a bit tricky for Europe doesn’t it ?
In the US the lock is on the outside as well. In Europe it’s only on the inside. So we would need something like the u200. An external keypad that can support uwb. So the next question would pop up. Where would one put the keypad.
I think that’s also a reason why there is no Europe release yet.
Does anyone else have other theories ? 
What do you mean by “lock is only on the inside”? The eurolock is a cylinder that can be opened using the key from either side (inside or outside) that is inserted into the lock mechanism.
The following comment is just my guessing and opinion based on what I observed, living in Europe since birth.
Europe has two types of Aqara locks - U200 that can be retrofitted on almost every door, and (I think) discontinued N100, which required you to replace the whole door handle and the lock module.
The thing is - almost all of Europe uses a lock mechanism that is joined with the door handle, so you are able to use the key to pull the spring (like with a door handle) or some locks have a security feature where you have to pull the handle up to lock the door. But there are multiple lock standards and lock sizes (including the distance of door handle and the key cylinder) so it’s almost impossible to make a universal product that replaces this type of lock.
BUT many people have a secondary lock on their door that can be used to install a lock like U400. Or the U400 could be retrofitted to be installed directly onto the cylinder from either side.
Nevertheless, it’s possible to release something like U400, but it takes more market research and development, that’s why it’s not available (hopefully yet).
But I think the main reason is that Europe is not Apple’s first choice/target market, just kind of a secondary premium market

Interesting. How do other European smart locks work? I’ve always assumed from pictures that there were components on both sides of the doors.

They are only on the inside of the house. At least retrofit ones.
It should be a compatible U400 like smart lock. Something like U200 but with UWB
AFAIK was the U400 developed in cooperation with Apple!
So it’s obviously that Apple wants the U400 first for American market… Europe and Asia will sure follow next with a similar product for their market!
Europe will need to wait for the IFA in September for a presentation of such an amazing product - that’s what I guess
