How do you get around needing to raise the handle to be able to lock the Aqara lock remotely if the handle isn’t up? Is this a door setting or lock setting?

Yale make a replaceable lock mechanism called the auto-engage. You open the door, remove the full strip top to bottom.
Then when closing the door, the latch movement triggers the engaging of the full door latch as if you’d raised the handle.

I currently have a Switchbot and its been the bain of my existence when people come in and then it tried to lock and i get a notification saying its jammed. Then i need to recalibrate it before it will lock again

I experienced a similar problem with my device. In my situation, it was linked to the door and lock configuration instead of the application. After properly adjusting the multipoint mechanism, I was able to lock it remotely without needing to lift the handle manually first.

Im interested to find out the solution to this too. Our lock is a bit iffy on our side door so I’d like to use an Aqara lock instead, but the lifting handle thing may be an issue

As others have said, you’ll need slam lock where the multipoint will engage when you close the door. Take has their auto engage range that does this, there are also other providers that do it too. Other than this, I don’t think there are any alternative options without impacting your multipoint function.
Note that if you live in a new build, there will be adjustments needed to install the slam locks, also not many have experience fitting them. I tried getting installation by multiple people but they all declined. Maybe I’ve just not found the right person yet.

Just to add, my workaround is this:
I added a split spindle so the exterior handle doesn’t function anymore. I also enabled the pull back feature to open the latch and the door opens by itself.
So what does this resolve?
-if someone closed the door but didn’t lift handle up, no one from outside can open the door (note that the multipoint isn’t engaged)

I also tried the switchbot, but sent it back as it was to much hassle. Have heard Aqara are releasing a new model for the UK … but not sure if it auto fires the latches

Not sure if double clicking the Phillips button did anything to do with the lock function though? The comments in the video doesn’t share that information?
I think they had just bound that via HomeAssistant or similar to initiate a lock instead of the auto lock feature built in by Aqara.
It seems like a strange preference that they have over autolock or a slight twist on the inner knob.
Personally I use autolock in the Aqara app or I have a fallback where HomeAssistant delays 5 seconds after my door sensor registers closed.

I’ve got the Switchbot and the battery is awful. I am looking to change and probably to an Aqara lock
I have seen a replacement multipoint lock called Yale AutoLock I believe… you can replace the standard multipoint mechanism with that and this removes the need to lift the handle at all.

You need a slam lock mechanism so you won’t need to lift the handle anymore.

interesting. That would be perfect to use with the aqara locks then. didn’t know yale did those. will need to give it a go
