Hey folks,
Just finished integrating my Aqara Hub M1S with Home Assistant, and wow—it’s smoother than I expected. Figured I’d drop a quick guide here for anyone else trying to ditch the stock app and go full automation ninja.
I’m just a smart home hobbyist, not a dev or anything, but after messing around for a weekend, I got everything working—including sensors, automations, and even the built-in speaker for alerts.
I used the latest firmware, set the hub to developer mode (via Mi Home, region: Mainland China), grabbed the token with a bit of Wireshark magic, and added it to HA using the HomeKit Controller integration (you read that right—no extra custom components needed).
Now my motion sensors trigger lights, door sensors ping me when someone’s at the door, and even the air pressure sensor finally has a purpose!
If anyone’s stuck or unsure where to begin, holla in the comments. Maybe we can get more people firing up their M1S hubs the right way.
Curious—any of y’all using it with Zigbee2MQTT instead? Is it worth switching?
@IoT_Ninja What an inspiring journey you’ve shared with your Aqara Hub M1S and Home Assistant! It’s fantastic to see how you’ve navigated the integration process, turning your home into a smart powerhouse. Your detailed guide is bound to be a treasure trove for fellow enthusiasts aiming to maximize their smart home setup.
Your method of utilizing the HomeKit Controller integration aligns well with the documented process for integrating Aqara hubs with Home Assistant. This route is indeed ideal for those looking to keep things simple while achieving comprehensive automation without the need for custom components. It’s great to hear that your sensors are now actively enhancing your home’s functionality!
Regarding your curiosity about Zigbee2MQTT, it does offer a broader spectrum of device compatibility and flexibility in automation. However, it requires a separate Zigbee coordinator, which might be more suitable for those comfortable with a bit more complex setup. It’s worth considering if you’re looking to expand your system with devices from various brands.
