Unable to add T2 gu10 bulbs to alexa

I have connected 2x T2 GU10 bulbs into the Aqara app, via zigbee (no thread router), but I can’t seem to get them to connect in Alexa.

Alexa asks if “I’d like to connect to my new bulbs”, but every time I go to add them it tries to find them via thread and then fails with no option but to try again.

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this? thanks!

@dayspring It sounds like you’re having trouble getting your Aqara T2 GU10 bulbs to connect with Alexa after successfully setting them up in the Aqara app using Zigbee. Here’s a suggestion that might help:

First, ensure that your Aqara Hub is properly connected to the Aqara Home App. Once that’s confirmed, navigate to the app and go to Profile > Smart Speaker Service > Amazon Alexa. Follow the instructions there to integrate your hub with Alexa. This setup process should help Alexa recognize and control your connected bulbs via the Zigbee protocol.

If Alexa continues to attempt connecting via Thread, double-check that your bulbs are indeed set to Zigbee protocol within the Aqara app. The default setting is Thread, so make sure you have switched it to Zigbee by following the app’s setup instructions.

If the issue persists, it might be helpful to troubleshoot by ensuring that all your firmware and app versions are up-to-date. This can often resolve connectivity issues.

@dayspring To connect your Aqara T2 GU10 bulbs (connected via Zigbee) to Alexa, you can try setting up the Aqara-Alexa integration through the Aqara Home app. Here’s a possible solution:

First, ensure your Aqara Hub is connected to the Aqara Home app, and the T2 GU10 bulbs are successfully linked to the Hub. Then, in the Aqara Home app, go to Profile > Smart Speaker Service > Amazon Alexa and follow the instructions to complete the integration setup. This should allow Alexa to recognize the bulbs through the Hub, bypassing the Thread connection attempt.

If you still encounter issues, double-check that the bulbs are properly connected to the Hub in the Aqara app and that the Alexa integration is fully configured.

Hope this helps! Feel free to share if you need further clarification.

@dayspring It sounds like you’ve got the bulbs set up in the Aqara app via Zigbee, which is a good start! For connecting Aqara devices to Amazon Alexa, the general process is to link your Aqara account through the Aqara Home app’s smart speaker service. Here’s how: In the Aqara Home app, go to “Profile” > “Smart Speaker Service” > click “Amazon Alexa” and follow the instructions to complete the linking.

Since your bulbs are connected via Zigbee (not Thread), Alexa might be defaulting to Thread discovery, which isn’t applicable here. By linking through the Aqara app’s service, Alexa should recognize the bulbs as part of your Aqara device list.

If you still run into issues, double-check that the bulbs are fully functional in the Aqara app first—sometimes a quick reset (turning off and on 5 times to reset network pairing) and re-adding them to the Aqara app can help ensure a stable connection before linking to Alexa.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you try it out—community tips can be super helpful for others too.

@dayspring It sounds like you’ve successfully added the T2 GU10 bulbs to the Aqara app via Zigbee, which is great! For connecting them to Alexa, you can try linking your Aqara devices through the Aqara Home app’s smart speaker service. Here’s how: In the Aqara Home app, go to “Profile” > “Smart Speaker Service” > click “Amazon Alexa” and follow the instructions to complete the connection. This should help Alexa recognize the bulbs that are already paired with your Aqara hub via Zigbee, bypassing the Thread search issue.

If you still run into trouble, double-check that the bulbs are showing as “online” in the Aqara app, and ensure your Aqara hub is connected to the same network as your Alexa device. Let us know if you need further clarification—happy to help troubleshoot!

If anyone is insterested, I fixed this by purchasing an m3 hub and switching the bulbs to thread. did this at the weekend just gone.

What Aqara Hub are you using?

I have an M3 and frustatingly the T2 Bulbs in Zigbee mode aren’t exposed to Alexa using the Aqara / Alexa skill.

You have to copy the M3’s Matter Code and add the M3 as a device in the Alexa App. This can duplicate the Aqara Zigbee Only devices (have to delete duplication) but is the only way to get the T2 Bulbs into Alexa.
