Just cracked open the new Aqara M3 Hub this weekend and figured I’d share my first impressions while it’s still fresh. I’m more of an enthusiast than a hardcore smart home dev, but I’ve got a good few Aqara devices running and was pretty hyped to get my hands on this one.
First off, the unboxing experience? Super clean. Minimalist packaging, feels very Apple-ish. The hub itself is compact and slick, doesn’t scream “tech box” when sitting on a shelf.
Setup was mostly smooth via the Aqara Home app, though I did hit a weird snag—it didn’t connect right away to my Wi-Fi 6 mesh. Had to kick it to the 2.4GHz manually before it played nice. Might be something for others to watch out for.
Once in, the response time with my existing sensors (motion, door/window, temp) was surprisingly fast. Like, noticeably snappier than my older M2. Thread support is definitely the game-changer here. Haven’t tried Matter integrations yet, but that’s up next on my list.
One odd quirk: the LED ring keeps flashing randomly even when everything seems fine. No errors, no lag—just some ghost light show. Anyone else seeing that?
