Underfloor Heating Integration with Tado: A User's Experience and Solution

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with integrating underfloor heating into my existing Tado smart home system. After successfully setting up Tado for my upstairs radiators, I decided to extend the system to cover my downstairs underfloor heating. This journey was both challenging and rewarding, and I hope my experience can help others facing similar issues.

The Challenge:
My underfloor heating consists of 5 zones, each controlled by wireless thermostats and an RF wiring center. I wanted to integrate this with Tado to enjoy the same level of smart control as my radiators. I considered replacing the existing wiring center with a Tado-compatible system, but I was unsure about the technical aspects and potential costs.

The Solution:
After researching, I found that the Heatmiser UH8 controller could be a viable option. It allows for hardwiring Tado thermostats and integrates well with existing systems. Here’s what I learned:

  1. Cable Specification:
For the new Tado wired thermostats, I used a 5-core cable with a cross-sectional area of 1.5mm². This ensures a stable connection and supports the required functionality.

  2. Integration with Existing System:
I connected the 5 new Tado thermostats directly to the existing RF wiring center. This setup allowed me to maintain control over the underfloor heating through the Tado app without needing a separate wiring center.

  3. Installation Tips:

  • Ensure all connections are secure to avoid signal interference.
  • Test each thermostat individually before integrating them into the full system.

The Outcome:
I successfully integrated the underfloor heating into my Tado system. The setup now allows me to control both my radiators and underfloor heating seamlessly. The system provides consistent heating and can be adjusted remotely via the Tado app.

Final Thoughts:
While the process required some initial research and planning, the end result was well worth the effort. The integration has enhanced my home’s comfort and energy efficiency. If you’re considering a similar project, I recommend starting with a clear plan and consulting resources or forums for guidance.

I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with underfloor heating integration or any tips they might have! Happy smart home tinkering! :rocket:
