Hi everyone, I recently installed a Tado system in my home with 8 TRVs, a smart thermostat, and a temperature sensor. I’m trying to wrap my head around how the zone system works, especially after hearing some conflicting information from the installers. Let me share my experience and see if anyone can shed some light on this!
So, historically, my house had two zones—downstairs and upstairs. Now, with the Tado system, I was told that it still operates on two zones, with one thermostat upstairs in the boiler room and one downstairs via the temp sensor. The installers mentioned that you can only call for heat on a radiator if the corresponding zone thermostat is also calling for heat. That sounds a bit restrictive, but I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case.
For example, if I want to make sure the sitting room radiator is on, I have to ensure the ‘Downstairs’ zone is active. Is that really how it works? It would be helpful to understand if there’s a way to manage this more flexibly, especially since I have multiple TRVs throughout the house. Maybe there’s a setting or feature I haven’t discovered yet that allows more granular control.
I’ve attached some images of my setup, including the thermostats and TRVs, to give a clearer picture. If anyone has experience with Tado’s zone system or can explain how it’s supposed to function, I’d really appreciate the insight! It would make managing my home’s heating much more efficient and less confusing.
Looking forward to hearing from you all and sharing tips on optimizing this system. Let’s keep the conversation positive and collaborative! ![]()
