Just wanted to say I’ve not been happy with the P2 door & window sensor.
Had one for just over a year when it failed. It also could never receive firware updates over matter as I’ve never had an Aqara hub and only had access to matter & thread via my Apple Homepod Mini’s.
It has been replaced by the Ikea ones now whuch have been reliable so far and have received updates.
@JonOakden Sorry to hear the P2 left you with that experience — a door/window sensor should be the “boring reliable” kind of device, and a failure after ~1 year is definitely frustrating.
A couple of practical notes that may help clarify what’s going on with P2 in general:
- P2 is a Thread + Matter device and requires a Matter Border Router hub to operate (so your HomePod mini part is totally on-point for basic connectivity).
- If you ever want to bring it into Aqara Home specifically, you’ll need an Aqara Matter controller hub (e.g., M3 or G5 Pro) — otherwise you’re limited to whichever Matter controller ecosystem you paired it with (like Apple Home).
- If the device “failed” in the sense of getting flaky/offline before it died, the common causes we see are distance to the border router, low battery, or signal interference if mounted on metal.
If you’re open to trying one more round of troubleshooting (even just for closure), you can also factory reset it by pressing the button 10 times quickly until the indicator flashes, then try re-adding it.
