Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share a bit of my journey figuring out how to really make Aqara sensors earn their keep. I used to just stick motion sensors in hallways and call it a day, but honestly, there’s so much more you can do.
I’m kind of a smart home hobbyist—always tinkering—but even I didn’t realize how much I was underusing them until recently. It wasn’t until I started combining them in automations across rooms that stuff really clicked.
For example:
I’ve got a temp and humidity sensor in my bathroom now. When humidity gets high (aka someone just showered), the exhaust fan kicks on automatically. Saves me from forgetting it every time.
Also, combining door sensors with time-based rules makes life smooth. After 11 pm, if the front door is opened and there’s no motion in the living room after 2 minutes, Aqara sends a push alert asking me if I forgot to lock up. Super handy when I’m half-asleep.
Another trick I love—putting motion sensors under the bed frame. Between 10 pm and 6 am, if it senses movement, it turns on soft floor lighting so I don’t stub my toe on midnight snack runs.
Anyone else gone deep with creative Aqara sensor setups? Would love to hear your tricks. Let’s unlock those “why didn’t I think of that” moments.
