Hello,

Could you let us know if an update will soon be available in beta testing for the Aqara M3 hub?

The Thread 1.4 update brings a range of features and improvements, including:

  • One mesh network: Regardless of brand, smart home platform, or operating system, updated devices or Thread Border Routers can now join existing Thread networks, creating a larger, more reliable mesh. Thread 1.4 standardises the way devices recognise and trust one another, resulting in one cohesive network

  • Improved testing and troubleshooting: Newly standardised methods for network configuration and status reporting provide developers and installers with enhanced visibility of Thread networks. This leads to improved performance, advanced troubleshooting capabilities, and the potential for commercial-grade monitoring

  • Secure, wireless onboarding in difficult locations: Thread’s commissioning at scale feature streamlines the process of wirelessly onboarding pre-installed devices in hard-to-reach locations, such as ceilings or walls. Instead of scanning physical installation codes, the onboarding can be done securely using TLS certificates, ideal for professional installations in commercial settings

  • Additional enhancements: Thread 1.4 also includes updates that improve the operation and performance of Thread mesh networks, ensuring better deployment and user experience across Thread-enabled devices

I requested Thread 1.4 support in 2025 without success. Same thing regarding ZigBee 4.0.

This is a pain that Aqara develops weird cloud-based bridging but still nothing for efficient meshing at hardware level.

Near zero Aqara hub acts as a repeater. If you have 5 Aqara cameras + M1/M2/M3 Hub you’ll have 6+ Zigbee networks and zero mesh support. This a crazy. Not only the sensors signal is not improved with more hubs, it actually worsen because of more WiFi overlap.

Current Thread/Matter implementation produces the same result. Thread 1.4 forces interoperability with other vendors.

Currently Aqara allows other vendors to join but won’t join other vendors network.

I got the newest beta firmware for m100 hub, with matter 1.5 and it’s still thread 1.3 :slight_smile:

If people are looking for interoperability, then there are already solutions for that. Roll up your sleeves and use Home Assistant which is supported by a global community of developers and enthusiasts who give their time for free to get literally everything working.

It wouldn’t come as much of a surprise that few, if any, mainstream platforms offer what OP is hoping for. I cannot think of one.

Also, pretty sure that the platforms already running newer versions of Thread ALSO opt out of platform sharing. It’s not mandatory.

Hmm, I wouldn’t recommend HA for Matter over Thread at the moment. e.g., my Ikea devices work just fine with Apple Home, but keep appearing/disappearing with HA. Same Thread network, different results.

Now, that could be because of a number of things, and it suggests some issue with Ikea (Web known they have issues), but why Apple Home OK and not HA?

Could be because I run HA on a VM, but it is supported on a VM and my TBR is actually a HomePod.

yep, probably they will only bump version to 1.4 without credentials menu, as long it’s not mandatory, it won’t change a lot.

Think this Apple ,Google, Samsung and Alexa they are way behind with thread release because they do not care to give as all on one software release example Apple each year they say your batterie last 20% more then last year.same thing happens with thread this companies just want to sell their new phones and there goes all the effort and work not on smart home apps.

Samsung SmartThings is on Thread 1.4 - for about six months now. They are also always the first to support the latest Matter version.

Well yes agree but still thread have limitations and it is still young compared with zigbee.apple is adding with iOS 27 energy and 4k secure video but who knows my be a few more things till the final release.personally I do not care to much of thread I have zigbee thread and matter I just want all my devices to work perfectly no matter the connection have if all are in my Apple home app and works great I am happy :rofl::rofl::grin:

I am waiting too for Aqara to implement Thread 1.4 ! Not just on hubs, but on devices too

@cocolino_26. Energy reporting came in Matter 1.3 and has nothing to do with Thread.

As for HKSV 4K video, I don’t think Apple is supporting Matter cameras yet.

Well we need to wait till the final release because as of now beta 3 is worst then beta2 :rofl::rofl::rofl: I have no idea how they can manage to release an beta worst then the first and second ones
