Upgrading to OpenTherm: A Smooth Transition with Tado

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience upgrading my Tado V3+ system to work with my new OpenTherm-compatible boiler. I had a UK kit initially, which was great, but I knew I needed to make some changes to fully utilize the OpenTherm functionality for better efficiency.

My main goal was to keep using the Tado ecosystem while enhancing my heating control. I considered a few options, like using the boiler’s weather compensation or even switching to another system, but ultimately, I decided to stick with Tado. The key was upgrading the Wireless Receiver to the EU version, which supports OpenTherm. It was a bit pricey, but after some research, I found a way to upgrade within my budget by using in-store credit from Screwfix. This upgrade was worth it for the energy savings and smarter temperature control I now enjoy.

I also decided to add Tado Smart TRVs to create ‘soft zones’ in my home, which has been a game-changer. It’s amazing how much more comfortable and efficient my heating system has become. I’m really happy with the decision to stay with Tado and enhance my setup. If anyone has similar questions or needs advice, feel free to reach out!

Cheers, and happy upgrading! :rocket:
