I want to set up this Thread so everyone can use it to offer their suggestions to the Aqara team and them have one place to go to view these ideas and hopefully get some of them in to production .
If you have an idea please reply to this thread and see if we can get Aqara to work any viable ideas!
I would love an outdoor sensor (like the door and window sensor) so that when my front gate is opened I can get notified, at night, I could get the sensor to turn on lights, plays sounds etc to let me know someone is on my property.
Currently I have several outdoor cameras and depending which way a visitor arrives I get a ton of notifications from the cameras, it would be great to just get one notification IF the gate was opened.
I’d also use one in the back yard, if the kids were playing I would have one sound an alarm if they tried opening the back gate.
Your idea for an outdoor sensor that functions similarly to the Aqara Door and Window Sensor is fantastic! Not only could it streamline notifications to just when the gate is opened, but it could also enhance security and convenience by integrating with lights and sounds. This would indeed reduce the clutter of multiple camera notifications and focus on the critical event of gate access.
Currently, Aqara’s sensors are primarily designed for indoor use, but your suggestion highlights a versatile application that could be immensely useful in outdoor settings. Implementing something like this could also increase safety, especially with kids around, as it would alert you to any unexpected gate activity.
I’ll make sure to pass your suggestion along to the Aqara team. Keep those creative ideas coming, and let’s see if we can inspire some new product developments!
There’s one thing I’d really love to see from Aqara to make my switchover to their products complete, and that’s an outdoor siren.
As a Ring Alarm user (not really by choice, I’m not a fan of Amazon products, but I desperately needed an alarm system in a hurry while we lived in hospital for 8 months), I love the connected nature of their alarm system, but hate its implementation, restrictive nature and need for a subscription to get the best from it.
I would very much like to replace all of the motion sensors and door/window sensors in my home with Aqara versions. The one thing that prevents me from doing so is the lack of an outdoor siren.
Obviously some Aqara hubs have sirens, but they’re all indoor only, I’d like a dedicated outdoor, wall mounted, weatherproof alarm siren.
I have seen some, not many, that could work via HomeKit, but none of them come without their own apparent problems.
In some countries, as far as I know, the use of a street siren may be prohibited by law in these countries. This can be confused with a siren about a natural disaster and evacuation.
Hello, my Aqara G5 outdoor camera worked as a street siren. I was confused by the surprise and quickly turned it off so as not to wake up the neighbors. The siren (G5) worked when I didn’t turn off the home security in time. Maybe G5 will suit you as a siren.
Thank you for the suggestion, I have had a couple of the doorbells, currently I’m using the G410, but there are a couple of main issues with any of the doorbells as a siren. They aren’t anywhere near as loud as an actual alarm siren and nor do they have any flashing lights as a further deterrent and lastly, these days a doorbell camera is far from a visual deterrent on its own, people simply cover their faces, whereas an actual wall-mounted siren at least has some effect as a deterrent as any would be burglars know there’s going to at least be one heck of a noise made.
There are of course options, I could use a ‘dumb’ siren and smart relay which would activate the siren, I could use a smart siren from another brand and integrate it with either HomeKit, or HomeAssistant.
Or of course, there are numerous options available from other brands.
Personally I’d prefer to stay within the Aqara ecosystem, I’ve invested a lot into it already both time and financially, so a proper, fully integrated smart siren from them would be the ideal option.
Failing that, I’ll probably end up just going with a Yale system. One thing is for sure, I’ll be getting rid of this Ring rubbish as soon as possible.
In the G5, you can turn on the camera’s spotlight (via automation) along with the sound.
I’m writing this as an option for you.
As a bonus, you will also see what is happening around the house when the siren is on (G5).
Door lock Product suggestion. A slim door lock that looks like standard uk handles on the outside (similar to a Yale smart lock) that are compatible with Apple home key.
Wish list:
Backup physical key
Internal physical turn lock.
Backup usb charge port external
Remote unlock from the Aqara app or Apple home app.
Siri shortcut integration that would allow a routine to be set up that would allow custom notifications if door is unlocked and for lights to be turned on when the door is opened.
Internal led status light that indicated lock state.
Lift Handel to engage multi locking door system.
So the door would automatic lock when the door Handel is lifted up.
Would like but not necessary:
Thumb print reader
Thank you.
I’m aware of these features, thank you. Unfortunately cameras, even with spotlights and sirens just aren’t as effective a visual deterrent.
I’ve seen far too many times where people provide photo/video evidence of bad actors completely ignoring their presence simply because they’re (the individuals) completely covered and not distinguishable in any way.
There’s really no alternative, or as effective a deterrent, to an actual, ideally also lit, alarm siren box on a wall to convey the fact that not only do you have cameras outside, but your doors, windows and interior are also fully alarmed.
Part of it is that these days, so many people choose to just ignore the fact that an alarm is sounding, unless it becomes an extreme annoyance for them personally.
But having a proper alarm system mitigates this considerably as it’s universally known that a proper alarm system can also be monitored by professional services and/or automated dialling to the authorities.
While cameras such as the G5 have a degree of similar functionality, they in no way convey that level of security visibly to anyone who doesn’t know about their features.
Personally, I just like to make sure my home is well protected and advertised as such. It’s by far my most expensive purchase (obviously) and so much of what it contains is irreplaceable. We’ve been unfortunate enough to have been burgled in the past, prior to having an actual alarm system installed and I can tell you first hand that the cameras, even with lights and audible alarms were pretty much useless on their own.
