Using NanoLeaf bulbs with the Aqara app using Matter

The link to my YouTube video on this post shows you how to add the Nanoleaf Matter A19 bulb into the @AqaraOfficial Home app using the Matter protocol. I also show how to automate the light using a door and window sensor so that when the door opens and closes, the light automatically turns on and off. Using the Matter protocol you have access to the following functionality.

  1. On and off control
  2. colour control
  3. cool to warm light control
  4. blinking of the light to identify which bulb you are accessing
  5. power off memory settings and logs.

The power of memory function is a great setting for things like power cuts. The NanoLeaf A19 Matter bulb is able to remember the state in which it was before a power loss meaning that you can choose whether the light turns on, off or returns to its previous state after a power outage.

By using the door and window sensor to automate this process, this gives a wide range of applications to the two devices. For instance, if someone is wheelchair-bound, or unable to reach the light switch for whatever reason, the simple action of opening the door turns the light on and closing the door will turn the light off again.

I found that pairing the bulb using the Matter protocol was straightforward and once it is in the app it is then extremely easy to set up automations.

This also has the potential to save your money as it will save power because you will never forget to turn the light off when the door is closed.

Lucky you. Mine unfortunately doesn’t have a light outlet at all and I used to struggle with how dark it went. I ended up putting a motion activated light as a temporary option but I may get a permanent outlet installed to setup something similar to what you showed.

I use Nanoleaf lines and Outdoor String Lights with @AqaraOfficial and it works great!

I have the Floor Lamp from Nanoleaf and was thinking of getting their halogens, but was also wondering if the Aqara halogens are not better in that case. Have you tested them by any chance and compared them?

Unfortunately, I have not tested the hexagons, I have also started moving away from the bulbs as the bulbs from Aqara are a lot more reliable when using with matter

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I never could get Nanoleaf to work well for me. I ended up going the Govee route and using Homebridge instead.
