Vera Device Naming Issues and Solutions

I recently encountered an interesting challenge with my VeraEdge system after updating to the latest firmware. It started renaming some of my devices by adding ‘1’ repeatedly to their names, which broke my carefully crafted scenes. For instance, ‘Front Light’ became ‘Front Light 1 1 1 1’. This was quite perplexing and a bit frustrating as it disrupted my smart home setup.

I reached out to customer support, and they explained that Vera might have attempted to drop and re-add the devices due to a configuration issue. Their solution involved unpairing and re-pairing all affected devices, which I did last week. Everything worked smoothly after that, but today the same issue occurred again with the same devices.

This experience has taught me the importance of regularly monitoring device configurations and being proactive with firmware updates. I’m curious if others have faced similar issues and how they’ve resolved them. Have you encountered this behavior with Vera or other smart home hubs?

It’s also made me think about the broader implications of automatic device management. While it’s convenient, it’s crucial to understand how these systems handle device configurations to avoid unexpected disruptions. I’m now considering setting up a routine check for device names and configurations to prevent similar issues in the future.

If anyone has tips or tricks for maintaining stable device configurations, I’d love to hear them! Let’s share our experiences and solutions to help each other navigate these challenges.
