Water sensor will not pair

Just purchased a three pack of water sensors (ZigBee) and I just can’t get them to pair to my M2 hub. I enter pairing mode on the app, select my sensor press on the water icon till blue light flashes hub talks to me but it fails every time. Tried two sensors and even tried removing the battery to power cycle. Seems too simple to fail but here I am. This is all done right next to the hub. Ideas anyone?

These Aqara water sensors, correct? Generic zigbee devices can’t be paired to Aqara’s hubs.

Where did you buy them? If these were purchased internationally and your hub is set to a different region (e.g., your hub is US but the sensors came from AliExpress) pairing could fail.

What you can also try is to to put into manual pairing mode by pressing the button on the hub 3x and then holding down your sensor. This will often override any regional issues (if that’s what is happening).

Robert, thank you for your response. Yes they are Aqara sensors purchased from Amazon ( I’m in the US ) just saw the push the button on the hub three times. In another search but was hesitant to try it but will now give it a try. Thanks

Let us know how it goes. Thanks for ruling out those other possibilities, they are common enough that I had to ask.

Well I just tried pushing the M2 button three times quickly, the voice says pair accessory or something like that, I press the water sensor until the blue light flashes quickly, the M2 hub light turns purplish and flashes quickly as if everything is fine and after a minute it announces pairing failed. I even just replaced the battery just in case the sensors were old but no joy. Just paired a few outlets a few days ago and it went smoothly. Just feels like I’m missing some step but it so damn simple I’m baffled.

And just to confirm - none of the 3 sensors will pair?

How many total child devices do you have paired to your M2?

And not to be trivial, but have you tried restarting your hub? Pull power and plug back in?

Definitely sounds odd… How far away are you with the sensor from the hub?

So I had contacted Aqara tech services and they requested a video of the set up. I did one video that kinda sucked and the sensor failed. I did another video that was very nice and to my amazement the damn thing paired! Now I have tried this procedure literally 20-25 times that failed. All were done literally next to the hub and I had restarted it a few times previously. I still need to pair two more but I can’t mentally deal with this for a few days. I truly appreciate all of your help and I agree we should never take for granted the steps that are taken for granted as we have all missed them at some point. Oh and I have 11 child devices. Time for a rum n coke to celebrate!!

lol - in the tech world we call this the demo effect, but I think it worked backwards and in your favor.
