Welche aqara Kamera für die Garage ?Which Aqara camera is suitable for the garage?

Hallo.

Hello.
I have a garage door that faces my garden; at the end of the path, there is my patio.
I would like my U200 lock to automatically unlock the door as I approach it—for instance, when I’m heading out to fetch firewood.
Ideally, this would be triggered by facial recognition or a specific sign or gesture (like a “thumbs up”).
I also need to ensure that the door doesn’t unlock every time I happen to be playing with my dogs nearby.
Could you please provide some recommendations for a suitable camera and the necessary automation setup?

@neptunsebi For your setup, the Camera Hub G3 or Camera G5 Pro are the strongest candidates, depending on how precise you want the trigger to be.

Camera Hub G3 supports 5 groups of static gesture recognition and face detection/recognition. This means you could literally walk up, give a “thumbs up,” and have the U200 unlock—no accidental triggers when playing with your dogs. The gesture acts as a deliberate “intent signal,” which solves your core problem elegantly.

Camera G5 Pro steps up with more advanced Visual AI: face/human/pet recognition, plus package guarding, vehicle recognition, and lens occlusion detection. It also supports face detection and recognition. Vehicle recognition could be a bonus if you ever want garage-door automations when your car approaches. However, gesture recognition isn’t listed for the G5 Pro, so you’d rely solely on facial recognition for hands-free unlocking.

My recommendation: Go with the G3 if you want that explicit gesture control (thumbs up = unlock) to avoid any false positives while playing with your dogs. The gesture is your “safety switch.” Go with the G5 Pro if you prefer pure face recognition and might expand into vehicle-based automations later.

Automation logic sketch (Aqara Home):

  • Trigger: Camera detects gesture X (G3) or recognized face (either camera)
  • Condition: Time window or specific mode (e.g., “Home” mode active)
  • Action: Unlock U200 + optional notification

One practical tip: set a narrow detection zone in the camera’s field of view so the automation only fires when you’re directly approaching the door, not just anywhere in the garden. This layered approach—zone + gesture/face + maybe time-based conditions—should keep your dogs from accidentally “unlocking” your afternoon.

Want me to dig deeper into the automation conditions, or are you leaning toward one camera?
