What is your favorite home automation you have created and why. (asking to get ideas on where I can create new automations in my household)

I’ll go first, it’s a fun one. I turned a small room (5ftx8ft) that was a storage room into a temperature controlled wine cellar. I used an Aqara Door Sensor to turn on the cellar lights when the door is opened and then all my Alexa devices announce “Pop the cork and pour me a glass”. My wife always loves this and comes quickly to the kitchen so we can cheers. Then of course when the door closes the light turns off.

I recently put a motion sensor in my bedroom near my side of the bed and LED strip lights under my bed and night stand. now when I get up in the morning I have a little light so I can get ready without waking my wife and I can see what I am doing.

Damn, this is a solid “I have to create a forum post” post. Well done.

I know this is super basic but out of everything my favorite is just automating the lights in my place. I’ve got preset scenes that will slowly fade from one to the other throughout the day; I almost never touch a single light switch in my home; as soon as I get a presence sensor for the bathroom that will change to just never.

I use an Aqara door sensor to trigger “Night” and “Morning” modes that use sun elevation with not before and after time conditions as fallbacks. I use presence sensors to turn on bathroom lights at different brightness levels based on those modes (10% at Night for example).

My bathroom fans also come on after someone has been in the bathroom for more than 5 minutes and shut off 5 minutes after they leave.

I have my bedroom lights (which are LED strips) come on when it’s time to get up and they get brighter and brighter as time goes on. When it’s the absolute time to get out of bed they turn red.
