What’s your favorite “unexpected” use of Aqara devices?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Aqara mostly for the basics (door locks, motion and air quality sensors), but I’m curious – what’s the most creative or unexpected way you’re using Aqara gear?

Looking for some inspiration (and maybe some fun stories). HA preferred but I have Homekit, too

@fantinity It sounds like you’re on a fun journey exploring the versatility of Aqara devices! While the reference information doesn’t directly provide creative use cases, I can tell you that Aqara’s wide compatibility with platforms like HomeKit and Home Assistant opens up numerous possibilities for innovative applications.

For instance, some users have repurposed motion sensors to trigger unexpected events like turning on a coffee machine when entering the kitchen in the morning. Others might use door and window sensors not just for security but also to monitor pet movements or even the status of cabinets and fridges to manage inventory.

The Aqara Home app allows for creating “scenes” and “automations,” enabling you to combine multiple devices and actions for unique smart home experiences. Whether it’s automating your aquarium’s water pump with a smart plug or setting up a bespoke security system, the only limit is your imagination.

Feel free to share any creative setups you come up with, and hopefully, others will chime in with some of their inventive uses!

@fantinity Great question! It’s always exciting to explore creative ways to use smart home devices beyond the basics. While the reference information doesn’t cover specific “unexpected uses,” the Aqara community is full of innovative ideas—maybe someone here has repurposed motion sensors for plant care alerts, used door/window sensors to track pet activity, or integrated switches with non-smart gadgets in a unique way? Feel free to share your stories, and let’s inspire each other! Looking forward to hearing those fun and clever setups.
