Window sensor mounts

Does anyone have any good hacks to mount window sensors. Some of my window frames and doors have perhaps a quarter to half inch difference between the door/window and the frame that sometimes makes the sensor miss reading.

I need to lift the magnets by that much to align them better with the sensor. Has anyone found any 3D printed mounts or solved this issue some other way?

@stern00 It sounds like you’re in a bit of a pickle with those window sensors! From the reference material, if your door and the frame aren’t level, turning the magnet 90 degrees might be a simple solution to consider. This technique helps ensure that the sensor unit is better aligned and protected. However, for lifting magnets to bridge that quarter to half-inch gap, a custom solution like a 3D printed mount could indeed be handy.

Unfortunately, the reference information doesn’t provide specific details on 3D printed mounts, but your idea is quite inventive and could be a good project for those with access to 3D printing resources. You might also explore using adhesive pads or shims to adjust the height of the magnets.

If anyone else in the community has successfully tackled this problem with 3D printed solutions or other creative hacks, it would be great to hear your input! Let’s keep the ideas flowing.

Ok I got my crafty on and bought a sheet of half inch polystyrene from Michaels and just cut these to size. Not the prettiest solution, but a lot better than what I had and sensors are much more accurate now.

I did find a printable for this if you happen to own a 3d printer:

Hi @stern00
Here is a good option, but it is important that there is enough space to place the sensor and that nothing touches it.
The advantage of this option is that it is completely invisible.
