First thing I noticed is that de markings on the plug are upside down (Euro version) and so is the button at the bottom instead of the top where it is supposed to be.
Do other testers have the same issue N
So when plugging it in, the button is at the bottom and the text/markings are upside down…
Do I have a faulty assembled item?
It’s not a defect, it’s just “Aqara logic”. They put the button at the bottom on purpose. If you install it that way, everything will work fine - you just have to stand on your head to read the labels on the back!
Aqara Wall Outlet H2 EU (socket): button is at the TOP (correct)
Aqara Light Switch H2 EU (switch): button is at the BOTTOM
The upside-down markings on the back are still weird, but here’s the logic:
Electricians have a habit of holding the device with the terminals facing up during wiring - that’s how they learn in trade school. The text is printed so that when held that way (terminals up, back facing you), it reads correctly for the person connecting the wires.
So nothing is wrongly assembled.
Alternatively, you can also just stand on your head when reading the back. Works perfectly.
You know what - I actually agree with you. It’s a stupid design.
Because the rest of the world (or at least everyone outside Type E countries) can just flip the plug 180° and use it the “right” way - button on top, text readable.
But Aqara made one version of the Smart Plug H2 EU for the whole European market, and then Type E users get screwed because their sockets force a fixed orientation.
Some plug variants like the H2 Euro version are assembled so the housing can rotate depending on socket design which can make the markings look upside down and the button end up at the bottom.
If it works normally, it’s likely just the casing orientation. If anything feels loose or misaligned though, then it’s worth reporting it to Aqara support.
