Wyze Cam Disguised as a Bird Feeder: A Creative DIY Project

I recently stumbled upon an ingenious way to hide my Wyze Cam v2, and I just had to share it with the community! After seeing another user’s post about concealing a front porch cam, I decided to take it a step further and disguise it as a bird feeder. It turned out to be a fun and practical project, and I thought I’d walk through how I did it in case anyone else is looking for a creative solution.

Materials Needed

  • A metal bird feeder (I went with a simple one from Home Depot)
  • Adhesive Velcro tabs
  • A small piece of closed-cell foam
  • Some paint (I opted for green spray paint)
  • Zip ties or string
  • A few tools for cutting and assembling

The Process

  1. Painting the Bird Feeder
I started by painting the bird feeder to better match the exterior of my home. It gave it a more natural look and made the cam less noticeable.

  2. Modifying the Bird Feeder
I popped out one of the plastic window pieces on the feeder. This was where I decided to place the camera. I also considered switching the camera to the other side during winter to avoid snow buildup, but for now, this side works perfectly.

  3. Securing the Camera
The camera’s magnetic base wasn’t strong enough on its own, so I used two adhesive Velcro buttons inside the feeder to hold it in place. This kept it snug and secure, even with the occasional breeze.

  4. Adjusting the Fit
The camera didn’t sit flush against the feeder wall at first, so I added a small piece of foam to push it up against the wall. It solved the issue neatly!

  5. Routing the Power Cable
I routed the camera’s power cable to the other side of the feeder and out the bottom opening. This kept everything tidy and out of sight.

  6. Mounting the Feeder
To keep the feeder steady, I secured it to the rack with a zip tie. It’s now rock solid, even in windy conditions.

Final Thoughts

This project was a great way to blend functionality with aesthetics. Not only does it provide a continuous feed of birds (which is a delightful bonus), but it also serves as an effective security cam without being an eyesore. Plus, it’s a fun way to add a bit of personality to your yard!

If anyone has similar ideas or tips for hiding their cams, I’d love to hear them. Happy crafting! :hammer_and_wrench::bird:
