Wyze Cam Door Mount Design - Share & Improve

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a project I recently completed for my Wyze Cam V2. I’ve been using the Wyze Cam for a while now, and while it’s a fantastic device, I always felt it could benefit from a more secure and stylish mounting solution. After some brainstorming and a bit of tinkering, I came up with a custom door mount that I think might be useful for others as well!

Project Overview

I designed this mount specifically to replace my Raspberry Pi camera setup on my front door. The goal was to create something that’s not only functional but also blends seamlessly with my home’s aesthetic. The mount I created uses a combination of double-sided tape and a strong magnet for secure attachment. It’s designed to fit snugly around the window frame, which was a bit of a challenge due to the large lip around the window.

Design & Materials

Here’s a quick breakdown of what I used:

  • Base Mount: I went with a sturdy plastic base that’s both lightweight and durable. The design includes a notch to accommodate the window’s lip, ensuring a flush fit.
  • Attachment Method: Double-sided tape for the initial hold, paired with a strong magnet to keep the camera firmly in place. This combination provides excellent stability without any visible screws or brackets.
  • Compatibility: The mount is designed to work with the Wyze Cam V2, utilizing the included magnetic puck for easy attachment.

Installation Process

  1. Measure & Mark: I started by measuring the door frame to ensure the mount would fit perfectly. Marking the exact spot where the mount would go was crucial for a seamless installation.
  2. Attach the Base: Using double-sided tape, I carefully placed the base mount on the door frame. I made sure it was perfectly aligned to avoid any wobbling.
  3. Secure the Camera: Once the base was in place, attaching the Wyze Cam was straightforward. The magnet ensures it stays put, even during windy conditions.
  4. Final Adjustments: I tweaked the position slightly to ensure the camera’s field of view was optimal, capturing the entire doorway without any blind spots.

Why This Mount?

  • Aesthetic Appeal: The mount is designed to be as discreet as possible, blending into the door frame without drawing unwanted attention.
  • Ease of Use: The magnetic attachment makes it incredibly easy to remove the camera for cleaning or repositioning.
  • Durability: The materials used are weather-resistant, ensuring the mount holds up well over time.

Looking for Feedback!

I’d love to hear what you guys think about this design. Have you tried something similar? Do you have any suggestions for improvement? I’m also considering creating a suction cup version for those who prefer not to use tape or magnets. Let me know if that sounds like something you’d be interested in!

If you’re curious about the design files or want to give it a try yourself, I’ve shared them on Thingiverse. Feel free to check it out and let me know if you run into any issues or have suggestions for modifications!

Looking forward to your thoughts and happy to help if anyone has questions about the installation process!

Cheers,
