Wyze Cam Outdoor Recordings: Troubleshooting and Insights

I’ve been using the Wyze Cam Outdoor for a while now, and I must say, it’s been a fantastic addition to my smart home setup. The ability to monitor my yard and catch those adorable hummingbirds is truly a joy. However, I recently noticed an issue where the camera isn’t recording anything, even though live streaming works perfectly. This has been quite puzzling, and I wanted to share my experiences and some potential solutions with the community.

First, I’ll outline the setup. I have the Wyze Cam Outdoor with a microSD card installed, and I’m using the Wyze Hub for local storage. The sensitivity settings are set to high, and the PIR detection area is well-configured. Despite all this, I’m not getting any recordings. The events tab in the Wyze app is completely blank, and there’s no indication of any issues with the camera’s connectivity.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the playback feature for recordings isn’t working as expected. The playback button is grayed out, and even when I try to access recordings from the events page, nothing shows up. This has been a consistent issue, and it’s quite frustrating, especially when I know the camera is functioning otherwise.

I’ve reached out to Wyze support, and while they’ve been helpful, the issue remains unresolved. I’ve tried reformatting the microSD card, resetting the camera, and even reinstalling the Wyze app. None of these steps have made a difference. It’s possible that there’s a bug in the firmware or an issue with the way recordings are being handled on the Hub.

In the meantime, I’ve found a workaround by enabling cloud backups for my recordings. While this isn’t ideal due to storage limitations, it’s better than having no recordings at all. I’m hopeful that Wyze will address this issue in a future update.

I’d love to hear from others who might be experiencing similar problems. Have you found any solutions or workarounds? I’m particularly interested in hearing from those who might have resolved this issue or have insights into why recordings aren’t being saved. Your experiences could be invaluable to others facing the same problem.

Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other troubleshoot this mystery. After all, a smart home is only as good as the tools we use to keep it secure and enjoyable!
