I’ve been using Wyze cameras for a while now, and I’ve always been impressed with their integration into Google Home. However, I recently picked up a Wyze Cam V4, and I’ve been running into some issues getting it to work seamlessly with Google Home. Here’s what’s been happening and what I’ve tried so far.
First, let me set the stage. I have a Wyze Cam V2 and V3 Pro, both of which work perfectly with Google Home. They load instantly, and the live feed shows up without any issues. The Cam V4, on the other hand, is a different story. It’s on the latest firmware, and while it works flawlessly in the Wyze app, Google Home just doesn’t seem to recognize it properly. Sometimes it spins indefinitely, and other times it just says the live feed is unavailable. It’s really frustrating because the other cameras work without any problems.
I’ve tried a few troubleshooting steps to fix this. I reset the Cam V4 and set it up from scratch, thinking maybe there was an issue with the initial setup. I also removed and re-added my Wyze account from Google Home, just to rule out any account-related issues. Unfortunately, none of these steps have made a difference. The Cam V4 still doesn’t work with Google Home, while the older models do.
I also decided to test the Cam V4 with Amazon Alexa, just to see if the issue was specific to Google Home. Unfortunately, Alexa also couldn’t access the live feed, which makes me think this might be a problem on Wyze’s end. It’s possible that the firmware on the Cam V4 isn’t fully compatible with third-party integrations like Google Home or Alexa. I’m really hoping Wyze will address this issue soon, as the Cam V4 is a great camera otherwise.
In the meantime, I’m sticking with my V2 and V3 Pro cameras for Google Home integration. They’re reliable, and it’s nice to have a consistent experience across all my devices. I’ll keep an eye on Wyze’s support forums and release notes to see if there’s any progress on this issue. If anyone else has encountered this problem or has found a workaround, I’d love to hear about it!
Overall, while the Wyze Cam V4 is a fantastic camera on its own, the integration issues with Google Home are a bit of a letdown. I’m hopeful that Wyze will resolve this soon, so I can fully integrate the Cam V4 into my smart home setup. Until then, I’ll continue to use my older cameras for Google Home integration and enjoy the reliability they provide.
