Wyze Cam Video Storage and Notification Tips

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into setting up my Wyze cameras around the house, and I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve discovered along the way. First off, the video storage feature is super handy, but I had a bit of a learning curve getting it all sorted out. I started by adding an SD card to my camera, thinking it would automatically store all my videos. Turns out, there’s a bit more to it!

I stumbled upon this tip about video length limits—apparently, videos longer than 12 seconds don’t automatically back up to the SD card. That was a bit frustrating at first, but I quickly realized I could manually move longer clips over if needed. Still, it would be awesome if Wyze made this process more seamless in the future!

Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is notifications. I have two cameras: one I set up myself and another my wife added. I wanted notifications from my camera only, but turning them off on my phone also affected my wife’s notifications. After some digging, I found that it’s not possible to customize notifications per user directly through the app. It’s definitely a feature I’d love to see in future updates!

On the bright side, the integration with Node-RED has been a lifesaver. I created a flow to send me a link to the latest video whenever motion is detected. It took a bit of tweaking, but now it works like a charm! I had to adjust the permissions and ensure the URL was correctly formatted, but the satisfaction of seeing it all come together was worth it.

I’d love to hear how others are managing their Wyze camera setups. Any clever automations or storage hacks you’d like to share? Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out as we navigate this smart home journey!
