Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with setting up email notifications for my Wyze cameras. I recently got the new Wyze camera and noticed that when the camera detects motion or records something, it only sends notifications to my phone via the app. While that’s great, I really wanted to receive these notifications via email as well for better convenience and backup.
First, I checked the Wyze app settings and noticed there’s an option for notifications, but it only allows notifications on the phone. I did some research and found out that Wyze doesn’t natively support email notifications for their free-tier users. However, I stumbled upon a workaround using IFTTT (If This Then That) to connect Wyze with Gmail. Here’s how I did it:
-
Set Up IFTTT Account: If you don’t already have an IFTTT account, sign up for free. It’s a fantastic tool for automating tasks across different platforms.
-
Connect Wyze to IFTTT: Search for the Wyze trigger in IFTTT. There’s a Wyze applet that can detect motion or specific events on your camera.
-
Link to Gmail: Once the Wyze trigger is set up, create an action to send an email via Gmail. IFTTT allows you to send emails with a subject and body of your choice. I set mine to include a brief description of the event and a link to the recorded video in the Wyze app.
-
Test the Setup: Trigger the camera manually (like waving your hand in front of it) to see if the email notification goes through. It worked perfectly for me!
I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried this or if there are other methods to achieve the same result. Let me know if you need help setting it up—I’d be happy to assist!
Cheers,
