Wyze Camera Troubleshooting and Resolution

After experiencing issues with my Wyze outdoor cameras, I wanted to share my journey and solution to help others who might be facing similar problems. Here’s my story:

Over the past year, I’ve had four Wyze outdoor cameras fail within the first month of ownership. The problem varied—some lost power completely, while others stopped responding to commands. This was frustrating, especially since they worked fine right after installation.

What I tried:

  • Factory Reset: I reset the cameras and re-added them to the Wyze app. They connected, but the issue persisted.
  • Firmware Update: I checked for updates, but nothing was available.
  • Rebooting the Router: I restarted my router and modem, but it didn’t help.
  • Contacting Support: I reached out to Wyze support, but the process was slow and unhelpful.

What finally worked:
After extensive research, I discovered that older Wyze cameras might struggle with network interruptions. I decided to upgrade my Wi-Fi infrastructure by installing a dedicated access point for my IoT devices. This isolated my smart home network from my main network, reducing interference.

Results:
Since implementing this change, my cameras have been reliable. I’ve also started using Wyze’s new features, like the ability to disable IR LEDs, which has improved night vision quality.

Tips for others:

  1. Check Network Stability: Ensure your IoT devices have a dedicated, stable network connection.
  2. Upgrade Hardware: If issues persist, consider upgrading to newer Wyze models or exploring alternative brands.
  3. Leverage Community Resources: Forums and communities like this one are invaluable for troubleshooting and sharing solutions.

I hope this helps someone else avoid the frustration I faced. Happy automating!
