Xiaomi Aqara Gateway Compatibility Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Xiaomi Aqara gateway (lumi.gateway.aqhm01) and how I managed to get it working smoothly with my Home Assistant setup. I know some of you might be struggling with compatibility issues, so hopefully, this can help!

Initially, I was a bit frustrated because the gateway wasn’t fully compatible with HA out of the box. I managed to get the token, but the config kept saying it wasn’t compatible. After some research, I found that the older models aren’t supported anymore, and even if you find one on AliExpress, it might not work as expected. So, I decided to look for alternatives.

I stumbled upon this great community thread where someone mentioned the Xiaomi Aqara Smart Gateway M2. It’s the newer model and seems to have better compatibility with HA. I ordered one, and honestly, it was a game-changer. The setup was much smoother, and all my sensors started working without any hiccups.

For those of you still using the older gateway, here’s what I recommend:

  1. Check for Updates: Make sure your gateway firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a simple update can resolve compatibility issues.
  2. Use the Right Config: If you’re still using the older model, ensure you’re using the correct configuration settings in HA. The community forums have some excellent guides on this.
  3. Consider Upgrading: If you’re facing persistent issues, it might be worth upgrading to the newer M2 model. It’s more reliable and supports more features.

I also want to give a shoutout to the community for their incredible support. Without the help I found here, I wouldn’t have been able to resolve these issues so quickly.

If anyone has specific questions or needs advice on getting their Xiaomi Aqara setup working perfectly, feel free to ask! I’m happy to help out.
