Xiaomi Smart Ceiling LED Light Review and Tips

Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to share my experience with the Xiaomi Smart Ceiling LED Light. As a newcomer to the smart home ecosystem, I’ve been exploring various devices to enhance my living space, and this light has been a fantastic addition to my setup.

I installed three of these lights in my living room, and initially, I was impressed by their sleek design and ease of installation. Using the Mi IO Binding in openHAB2, I was able to connect them seamlessly. However, I encountered a minor hiccup where one of the lights would occasionally delay or not respond when switching all lights on or off. This was a bit puzzling, especially since I experienced the same issue with the MiHome and Yeelight apps.

After some research, I discovered that the delay might be due to the server location. I was using the China mainland server, so I decided to switch to the Europe server to see if that would resolve the issue. While the delay improved slightly, it wasn’t a complete fix. This led me to question whether openHAB handles commands locally or if they still go through the server. I assumed local handling would eliminate delays, but it seems that might not be the case.

I reached out to the community for recommendations on Xiaomi lights that operate purely on LAN to avoid server dependencies. I’m also exploring alternative bindings or configurations that might offer better performance. If anyone has insights or suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Despite the minor setbacks, I’m still enamored with openHAB’s flexibility and the potential these lights hold. I’m excited to continue experimenting and optimizing my smart home setup. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your feedback and tips!
