Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience and seek some advice regarding my Z-Wave network setup. I recently expanded my smart home system to include a new garage, and while I’ve managed to integrate some devices successfully, I’m encountering some reliability issues with my Z-Wave devices, particularly in the garage area.
I have a C7 hub with around 20 Z-Wave devices, along with several ZigBee devices. Everything was working smoothly until I added functionality to the garage. I installed a few Z-Wave devices there, including a two-way switch, a siren, a motion sensor, and a smart implant for my electric door. The garage is about 1.5 meters away from my house, and the hub is mounted on the wall near the network and power plugs, roughly 8-10 meters from the garage.
The issue I’m facing is that commands sent to the garage devices are sporadic at best. After rebooting the hub and rejoining all garage devices, they worked for about 12 hours before becoming unresponsive again. I decided to add a couple of Ring Beam repeaters to help with the signal, positioning one in the room adjacent to the garage and another inside the garage. This seemed to improve the situation for about a week, but now the electric door, controlled by the Fibaro smart implant, is acting up again. It takes several attempts to close, and the device logs show that it’s now routing directly to the hub, which is causing instability.
I’m really hoping to find a reliable solution that allows me to trust my Z-Wave network again. Has anyone else experienced similar issues when expanding their Z-Wave network to a new area? What strategies did you use to ensure consistent communication? I’m open to suggestions, whether it’s about optimizing the existing setup, adding more repeaters, or even considering alternative configurations.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer! I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. ![]()
