Zigbee Connectivity Challenges in a Multi-Story Home

Hello everyone, I’m really excited about setting up my smart home, but I’ve been running into some issues with my Zigbee network. I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone has advice or solutions. Setup Overview: I’ve installed several Zigbee devices throughout my 4-story home, including thermostats, temperature sensors, and smart switches. The main Zigbee coordinator is a Sonoff Stick connected to my HA Raspberry Pi in the first floor hallway. Additionally, I’ve placed two other routers—one in the basement and another on the first floor—to help with coverage. The Problem: Despite having multiple routers, my Zigbee network isn’t as stable as I’d hoped. Devices frequently go offline, even those that are in direct line of sight to the coordinator. Sometimes I can bring them back online by holding the repair button for 5 seconds, but it’s only temporary. This inconsistency is frustrating, especially when I’m trying to automate my home. Observations: - Some devices show up as online in the network but don’t have visible connection lines. - The router in the basement connects directly to the coordinator on the first floor instead of the closer router on the ground floor. - I’m curious if there’s a way to assign devices to specific routers to ensure more reliable connections. Questions: - What factors contribute to a strong Link Quality Indicator (LQI)? - Is it possible to configure devices to prioritize connections to certain routers? - Why does the basement router connect to the first-floor coordinator instead of the closer ground-floor router? Attempts to Fix the Issue: I’ve tried adjusting the placement of routers, resetting devices, and ensuring all firmware is up to date. Nothing seems to consistently resolve the connectivity issues. I’d really appreciate any insights or tips from the community. If anyone has successfully stabilized a multi-router Zigbee network, please share your experience! Thanks in advance for your help!
