Zigbee Devices and Routing: A Success Story

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a positive experience I had with my Zigbee devices and Homey setup. It’s been quite a journey, but I’m thrilled with how everything came together in the end.

Initially, I was a bit frustrated because I couldn’t pair any new Zigbee devices after a certain point. The last few devices kept giving me trouble, and it was a bit discouraging. But then I stumbled upon some information about device limits and routing, and it sparked an idea!

I did a bit of research and discovered that Homey can only directly connect to 20 Zigbee devices. Beyond that, the rest need to route through other devices. I had a variety of devices—Fibaro roller modules, Hue lamps, and Tradfri lights—so I thought, why not use them as routers? It made sense since they were already connected and stable.

The key was figuring out how to get Homey to recognize this routing. I found out that if I positioned the devices farther away from Homey during pairing, it forced them to connect through another device instead of Homey itself. It wasn’t always perfect, but with some trial and error, it worked!

Now, my setup is much more robust. The devices that were previously problematic are now seamlessly integrated, and I don’t have any connectivity issues. It’s amazing how a bit of tweaking and understanding the underlying mechanics can make such a difference.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has had similar experiences or has tips for optimizing Zigbee routing. It’s a great feeling to have everything working smoothly, and I’m excited to continue expanding my smart home setup!

Cheers,
