Zigbee Range and Coverage in Older Homes: My Experience and Tips

I recently decided to upgrade my smart home setup by replacing some of my older nodeMCU-based temperature sensors with Zigbee devices. After doing some research, I settled on the Sonoff Dongle P and a few Zigbee sensors. However, I’ve been wondering about the range and coverage, especially since I live in an old house with thick walls and limited Wi-Fi signal in certain areas.

My setup includes a nodeMCU for temperature monitoring, some Steckdosen with Tasmota, and now the new Zigbee devices. I’m particularly concerned about the first floor and the attic, where there are no Zigbee repeaters. I’ve heard that Zigbee networks rely on devices connected to the power grid rather than battery-powered ones, but I’m not entirely sure how that affects coverage in my home.

I’ve been experimenting with placing the Zigbee sensors in different locations to maximize coverage. So far, I’ve found that positioning them near existing Wi-Fi routers helps, but I’m still experiencing some dead zones. I’m curious if others have faced similar challenges in older homes and what solutions they’ve found.

One thing I’ve learned is the importance of proper placement and the role of repeaters in maintaining a stable Zigbee network. I’d love to hear any tips or tricks others have for improving Zigbee coverage in challenging environments. Let’s share our experiences and help each other create a seamless smart home setup! :rocket:
