Hey everyone!
I’m really excited to share my recent project with you all. I’ve been working on integrating smart switches and outlets throughout my 4-story home, and I wanted to document my journey and share some tips that might help others who are looking to do something similar. ### Project Overview I’ve always wanted a seamless smart home setup, and after doing some research, I decided to go with Zigbee devices for their reliability and ability to work without a central hub. I chose Zigbee switches and outlets from a reputable brand, and I’m really happy with the results so far. ### Setup and Configuration One thing I wanted to clarify for others is whether these Zigbee switches and outlets can act as routers or repeaters. From what I’ve read and experienced, yes, they can! This is super helpful because it means I don’t need additional repeaters throughout my home. The devices can extend the Zigbee network as long as they’re within range of the main coordinator. I’ve installed around 40-60 of these devices across my home, and the network has been running smoothly. I did have to experiment with placement to ensure optimal coverage, especially in areas with thick walls or multiple floors. ### Tips for Others 1. Plan Your Layout: Map out your home and identify areas where you might need additional coverage. 2. Use a Coordinator: Make sure you have a reliable Zigbee coordinator (like a smart hub or a dedicated device). 3. Test Placement: Move devices slightly if you notice connectivity issues. Sometimes a small adjustment makes a big difference. 4. Firmware Updates: Keep your devices updated to ensure they’re running the latest software. ### Questions for the Community I’d love to hear from others who’ve done similar setups! - How many devices have you successfully integrated? - Have you encountered any challenges with coverage or connectivity? - Any tips for optimizing performance in multi-story homes? Let’s keep the discussion going! ![]()
